Gardener and lawn care in Orange County
In Orange County people do not hire a lawn mowing service, they hire a gardener: one crew that shows up every week or every other week, mows and edges, trims hedges, blows the hardscape and keeps the beds tidy. Tell us about your yard and we connect you with independent local gardeners who quote a flat monthly price.

Licensing and rules for gardener / lawn care in California
Routine mowing, trimming and cleanups are maintenance work and do not need a CSLB license in California. Installing irrigation, hardscape or new planting is C-27 Landscaping contractor work, and spraying weeds or pests for hire needs a DPR Maintenance Gardener license. We tag those requests and send them only to partners who confirm the right license.
What we require from partners on this line:
- City business license
- General liability insurance
- Battery or compliant blowers where a city requires them
- DPR license before any herbicide or pesticide application
- C-27 license for installation work
We are a referral service, not the contractor. Verify license and insurance with the provider before hiring. See partner criteria.

Gardener and lawn care FAQ
Most Orange County homeowners pay a flat monthly rate for weekly visits, and the price depends on lot size, how much lawn there is and whether hedges and palms are included. See the pricing page for current estimate ranges. The gardener you are matched with sets the final price after seeing the yard.
Mowing and edging, blowing off patios, walks and the driveway, light trimming of shrubs on a rotation, weeding beds and checking sprinkler timers. Palm trimming, big hedge cutbacks and one-time cleanups are usually quoted separately.
Not quite. A gardener maintains what is already there. Landscapers design and install new yards, irrigation systems and hardscape, which in California requires a C-27 contractor license once the job is over the CSLB threshold. If you need new landscaping, choose that option in the form and we route it to a licensed partner.
Rules vary by city. Laguna Beach bans leaf blowers entirely and Newport Beach bans gas blowers in residential areas, and California stopped sales of new gas-powered small engines with model year 2024. Many crews now run battery blowers; tell us if your city or HOA has a rule and we pass it on.
Spraying herbicides for hire requires a California DPR maintenance gardener pest control license, so most gardeners pull weeds by hand or use mulch and pre-emergent fabric instead. Ask for manual weeding unless the pro confirms they hold the license.
