Who receives your request
Backyard Pros OC is a referral service, not the contractor. When you submit a request, it goes to up to 3 independent companies per service line. This page lists what we require from them. It is not a guarantee of their work; verify license and insurance yourself before hiring.
Every partner, every line
- An active business license in the city or county where they work
- General liability insurance, with a certificate available to customers on request
- A real, verifiable business: name, phone and service area that match public records
- Agreement to contact customers only about the request they submitted, and to honor STOP and do-not-call requests
- Agreement to take only the request types their licenses allow; licensed-only requests are routed separately
- No pay-to-play ranking: partners are matched by service line and ZIP code, not by how much they pay
Partner list: we are still signing up companies in Orange County. A list of current partners by city will be published here once it is stable. Until then, each company identifies itself when it contacts you.
Gardener and lawn care
- City business license
- General liability insurance
- Battery or compliant blowers where a city requires them
- DPR license before any herbicide or pesticide application
- C-27 license for installation work
Routine mowing, trimming and cleanups are maintenance work and do not need a CSLB license in California. Installing irrigation, hardscape or new planting is C-27 Landscaping contractor work, and spraying weeds or pests for hire needs a DPR Maintenance Gardener license. We tag those requests and send them only to partners who confirm the right license.

- C-61/D-35 or C-53 license before taking equipment repair, install or acid wash leads
- Public pool experience and OC Health Care Agency compliance before taking HOA, apartment or hotel pool leads
Routine cleaning and chemical balancing need no CSLB license. Equipment installation and repair and acid baths are C-61/D-35 work and pool construction is C-53, so those requests are tagged pool-equipment and sent only to licensed partners. Commercial pools (HOA, apartment, hotel) are regulated by the OC Health Care Agency, so commercial pool leads go only to partners who service public pools.

No contractor license is needed for pet waste pickup beyond a city business license. Waste is bagged and placed in your own trash cart, never near the curb or a storm drain, because Orange County cities classify pet waste as a stormwater pollutant.

- Runoff kept out of the street and storm drain
No contractor license is required for turf cleaning. Rinse water should soak into the landscape or go to the sanitary sewer, not the gutter, under Orange County stormwater rules.
Turf cleaning servicesPressure washing

- Runoff-compliant: vacuum recovery, landscape absorption or sanitary sewer discharge under the OC MS4 permit
- C-33 license before washing as prep for painting or sealing over the CSLB threshold
Pressure washing does not need a CSLB license. Washing as preparation for painting or sealing becomes licensed C-33 work once the project is over the CSLB threshold, so those requests are tagged. Under Orange County's MS4 stormwater permit, wash water must never reach the curb, gutter or storm drain; being runoff-compliant is a requirement for every partner on this line.
